The laboratory is designed to conduct Microscopical Identification of Asbestos by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) according to the EPA/600/M4-82-020, 1982 and the EPA/600/R-93/116, 1993, methods. PLM is the technique most often used to analyze bulk building materials for asbestos content. Experienced RHP experts are proficient in PLM analysis including testing of optical properties of fibrous components and providing both asbestos type and estimated percentage in sample materials.

RHP is also registered in the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Asbestos Analyst Registry (AAR) Program which recognizes the use of phase contrast microscopy (PCM) for the analysis of airborne asbestos as documented in NIOSH Method 7400.
