The best way to prevent illness to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is avoidance. The SARS-CoV-2 virus transmits mainly from person to person, both through respiratory droplets in close contact and via airborne particles. Mitigation guidance focuses on close-contact, fomite, and aerosol transmission by stressing the need for increased physical distancing, wearing face coverings, implementing an increase of cleaning procedures focused on surface decontamination, and improving ventilation effectiveness and controls. In addition, by practicing good personal hygiene, food handling, and limiting travel and crowds, one can decrease the spread of the virus.
