Human health (HHRA) and environmental risk assessment (ENRA) are important decision-making tools for the management of chemicals and RHP scientists are well versed in exposure modeling, laboratory and field-based quantification of exposures, and toxicology to assess potential risks to human health and the environment.
RHP scientists use scientifically accepted and recognized approaches in toxicology, exposure modeling and quantification, dose response, benchmark dose modeling, and physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling to address questions regarding risk profiles of chemicals, identifying safer & sustainable alternatives, enhancing the understanding of risk that leads to better decision making, and implementing risk management measures to effectively and efficiently reduce exposures for workers and consumers.
RHP scientists have been actively involved in the development of novel approaches to solve complex questions, collaborating and partnering with regulators & industry experts to guide science and evidence-based regulations, and providing expert advice to industry, as well as on scientific advisory panels, to peers and trade groups.

Product and Consumer Goods and Sustainability
RHP’s experience in exposure sciences, toxicology, scientific advocacy, and regulations, helps stakeholders and decision makers prepare consumer goods for the marketplace by evaluating the safety of new, adapted and existing products, demonstrating compliance with local, national, and international regulations and requirements, and pioneering the development of stewardship programs to ensure longevity, continuity and sustainability of products. Clients can rely on RHP’s depth and breadth in exposure sciences and toxicology to define and identify science and data driven evidence where questions involving human health, environmental and chemical exposure concerns arise in consumer or end user products.
RHP scientists review existing product chemistries and provide alternative chemistries with the intent to reduce product impacts on human health, environment and sustainability through toxicology and assessment of hazard and exposure fate and transport, product compatibility, and substitution feasibility. By conducting in-depth evaluations, RHP scientists assist stakeholders and decisionmakers strategically prioritize product formulations, accelerate, redesign or suspend new product development, invest in scientific advocacy, and advise on formulation and chemical substitutions.
RHP scientists also evaluate the migration of chemicals from food packaging such as adhesives, antimicrobials, coatings, plastics, and paper, into food and those that may occur naturally, and conduct toxicokinetic modeling and analyses on exposures to migrant and other chemicals in food.
Air Toxics for Community Impacts and Occupational Health & Safety
The air quality experts at RHP couple field and lab exposure monitoring and modeling of indoor and outdoor air pollutants with toxics to develop site specific risk assessments. While air quality modeling from traditional equipment and sources can be used to demonstrate regulatory compliance, RHP scientists through our toxicology services can further address complex scenarios and hazards and thereby tailor risk management measures for chemical emissions arising from fugitive sources, explosions, leaks, and chemical evaporation in your facility or neighboring facilities that may affect your workforce, the public or the environment. By evaluating and measuring such emissions, RHP scientists can equip stakeholders with the data to respond to regulatory attention or citations.
RHP uses industry standard and regulatory accepted models such as AERMOD, DEGADIS, SLAB amongst many others and software packages for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model accidental releases, conduct fugitive dust emissions modeling, evaluate occupational settings, anticipate and prepare for emergency planning and response, design and implement indoor air modeling and exposure simulation studies, using a combination of toxicology, industrial hygiene, exposure assessment, and epidemiology to develop occupational exposure limits (OELs), and design air quality sampling plans.
